FLEX
The Floating Exhibition (FLEX) is a mobile, interactive exhibition built on a recycled river ferry to raise awareness about water pollution—especially in the Danube and Tisza Rivers—by showcasing science-based solutions, recycled materials, and educational tools that engage visitors of all ages in understanding and combating riverine plastic waste.
FLEX
The aim of the Floating Exhibition (FLEX) is to raise public awareness of the pollution of living waters, in particular the Danube and the Tisza, and to provide science-based results and methods to tackle the problem. The exhibition brings the river closer to the public and attempts to change the way visitors interact with single-use plastics. Made entirely from recycled and recyclable materials, the Floating Exhibition's colourful range of zero waste products will excite young and old alike. By thought-provoking and hands-on elements, children, teachers and parents can interactively learn about the achievements and history of the Plastic Cup, the results of river cleanups, the ecological role of rivers, river plastic pollution and possible solutions. This playful and interactive awareness raising place will make you learn invisibly about the challenges facing rivers and local responses. All this through exhibits that carry a river-friendly message in themselves. In addition to the familiar objects made by upyccling of riverine plastic (boards, rulers, pens, jewellery, utensils), visitors will be able to see items made from scrap wood (cutlery), clay from the Tisza (tea and coffee sets) and recycled glass.
The aim is to show how river waste is generated, how it is transported, how it can be collected and what types of materials can be recycled. The exhibition can be used to entertain children, educate visitors, but also for small meetings and training sessions for professionals: the FLEX also features a Plastic Workshop and a conference room.

The FLEX is built on a former disused river ferry that operated on the Bodrog River at the settlment of Sárazsadány transporting people, livestock and agricultural machinery. Years ago it was taken out of service, maintenance stopped and corrosion started to work on the hull. It was close to ending up as scrap metal when Plastic Cup decided to give the ship a second chance. But still, the FLEX floats on water, so we are not moving away from the subject, we are going to the river.
Almost every element of FLEX designed with reuse and recycling in mind, not only to encourage zero waste, but also to set an example! The space of the used ferry and sea containers that form the basis of the exhibition is made up of tonnes of river and selective waste. The flooring is made of river and recycled plastic, the tables and registration desk are made of scrap wood. Windows, doors and insulation panels are all used received from individual donations, home renovations and construction projects. The wide variety of raw materials has been incorporated into the exhibition by the enthusiastic volunteers, with the help of their expert partners and supporters.
